This page is a collation of work samples created in the course of completing various assignments at Southern Cross University. This page is a work in progress and some items are yet to be uploaded, esp photos of work completed.
INTRODUCTION
In 2013 I was accepted into the Bachelor of Technology Education (BTechEd) program with Southern Cross University. My majors include design, graphics, multimedia and industrial technology (timber & metal). Elective subjects include mathematics and numeracy, supporting learners with disabilities, and assessment and reporting.
The degree requires 4 years of full-time study and offers a rigorous program combining academic enquiry with thorough practical training for students.
Throughout the first 2 1/2 years of the program I have completed various assignments and activities and very much enjoyed the challenges of learning new techniques and technologies. Below is a summary listing of my productions.
During my first prac at St Paul's I was able to put some of these resources to good use in the classroom. The resources were used to support, and hopefully inspire, learning of my students.

DESIGN
- The design management & communication process to realise a new iPad stand.
- The incomplete History of Design & Technology, in 26 slides.
- Australian Designer Showcase, a divergent collection of inspiring Aussie design(er)s Warning VERY LARGE file 91MB.
- Design folio - Educational resource for sustainable tick bite management. This project became a significant assignment and came about as I had a genuine interest in developing a useful, practical outcome. A friend with tick induced mammalian meat allergy inspired me to pursue this task and I am quite sure there's a PhD waiting for a science student to test the efficacy of ether spray as a sustainable alternative to the various, often dangerous, methods of tick bite management. GRAPHICS
- A simple drawing (as good as you're likely to get from me) of the fascinating Nautilus
- A selection of pipe, engineering, architectural and production drawings from an SCU graphics assignment. Sketchings by hand, drawn in Trimble (nee Google) Sketchup and assembled in Layout.
- Colour Psychology and the immortal T-Shirt. A simple graphics exploration.
- A critical analysis and description of five forms of graphic communication selected from industry and commercial enterprise.
- My favouite coffee table was designed, drawn & built 2014. All the documentation here. Warning LARGE file 41MB. Go to the timber section below to see photos of the finished table.
MULTIMEDIA
- A bone-crunchingly bad audio production I did with the wife & kids. All about audio effects (and wearing a helmet when skate-boarding).
- Jack is a 'Plastolina' character I designed for an SCU assignment to meet the brief of creating an animation supporting gambling welfare services of a Northern Rivers Gambling support service. The whole film was animated in Photoshop using 'puppet warp' to create stop-motion movement. Behind the scenes pics and the final product below.

INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY - TIMBER
- Why do it in sheet metal, when you have plywood. A timber tool caddy ready for service.
- An industry study on Dunstone Design, true masters in the design and production of fine furniture operating a successful business in today's discerning marketplace.
- Project design & documentation for my lovely Oak coffee table, photos below. Can you find the hidden compartment?
- The final drawings for the abovementioned coffee table were completed during a unit of CAD drawing. Rather than re-linking, just click here to be transported to the Graphics Section.
- I love timber so much I went and built a website about it.
INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY - METAL
- A little work redesigning the olde sheet metal tool caddy
- All about the joinery of metals in the school workshop. All drawings done by myself in Sketchup. All this research didn't make me a better welder, but I now know when to weld and when to rivet!
- A final drawing of my metal wall art. Welded and braised from steel angle, stainless rod, annealed copper and annealed high tensile wire. The final product is a pleasure, just trying to find a place at home where I am allowed to hang it.
ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPT
As of January 2015 I am have completed more than 80% of my course. My final completion is planned for June 2016. As of June 2015 my Grade Point Average is 6.36/7 which equates to an HD average at over 90%. None of it came easily :)
